Performer Warren Mitchell, who played with Alf Garnett has died aged 89.
A statement from his family said the star died in the wee hours of Saturday “surrounded by his family”.
“Warren has experienced poor health for quite a while, but was cracking jokes to the last,” the family included.
Mr Mitchell’s great nephew paid tribute to him on Twitter, saying he was “the last of his generation”.
The entire tweet read: “Only got the news my great uncle Warren Mitchell (aka Alf Garnett) died last night.
The last of his generation, amazing and humorous guy RIP.”
Mitchell played the character Alf Garnett before the programme ended with over 50 episodes, in 1975.
Mitchell returned as Alf Garnett.
