Recommended Wellington composer Jack Body has died just days after being named a New Zealand icon.
70, body, died on Sunday at Mary Potter Surgery in Wellington.
Just a week ago he acquired an Arts Basis of New Zealand Icon Award.
The Arts Foundation mentioned in a statement that Body could be missed.
“Jack was given a Laureate Prize in 2004 and enjoyed in numerous Arts Foundation events.
“We’ve fond memories of time-on the road with Jack. There was never a dull moment.
“He’d ask so he could go into the Warehouse to raid the Disc bins, buying discounts sometimes simply because they’d interesting addresses us to stop in small villages.”
The Star Awards are restricted to 20 living performers at any one period and other users have included Sir Peter Jackson and photographer Ans Westra.
He had previously been made an Arts Foundation Laureate and he’s the initial laureate to also obtain an Icon Award.
Body was a professional in Oriental music and his expertise saw him collaborate with some of the biggest brands of classical music like the American Kronos Quartet.
