August breaks heat records across globe

Last month was the hottest August in modern history, in the most recent indication of an unusually warm year on the other side of the land and sea surfaces in the world, US government scientists said on Thursday.

“This was the sixth month in 2015 that’s broken its monthly temperature record (February, March, May, June, July and August),” said a report from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

“This was the greatest for August in the 1880-2015 record, besting the prior record set in 1998 by 0.13 Celsius”. Record breaking heat was seen across much of South America and areas of Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
