The Australian Football League (AFL) has endured an “epic fail” after it congratulated the incorrect player for winning the esteemed Brownlow Medal.
The official AFL site marketed products naming Sam Mitchell the finest and fairest player of the code, when Nat Fyfe was the actual victor.
The blunder – credited to human error – drew severe criticism on social networking.
The AFL’s media supervisor, Patrick Keane, failed to hold back either, describing the picture as an “heroic site neglect”.
The moment the error was realised the erroneous post was removed by the AFL.
Human mistake went live without any effect understood. [The] AFL apologises without reservation to any or all fans/supporters who’ve been misled.”
Some mad supporters demanded a refund on stakes they’d set, as local media reports the post shoved the chances of Mitchell from A$11 to $3.
