Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan has also expressed his desire to play the role of the legendary Pakistani writer
After Pakistani performer/director Sarmad Sultan Khoosat made waves in the recent biopic along with his extraordinary portrayal, Bollywood celebrity Irrfan Khan has additionally expressed his need to play with the renowned Pakistani writer’s part.
Filmmaker and Indian performer Nandita Das, who’s returning after six years using a movie based on Saadat Hasan Manto to direction, disclosed that Irrfan has shown interest in playing with the lead character of her forthcoming movie.
Nandita divulged that the globally acclaimed performer is a Manto lover himself and has read lots of his work.
“Irrfan has revealed serious curiosity about the picture. The entire movie rests on Manto.
“In fact, after I talked to Irrfan Manto said with this sort of character, ‘any performer would grow from your grave to do it’. He’s an extremely sensitive performer. The actor himself has read lots of Manto. Manto talks to him at an individual level as it talks to Nandita. So I’m expecting that we’ll have the ability to work collectively,” she added.
Through the movie I’d like to state that everything that was not irrelevant in his time is unfortunately still applicable now. Whether it is the battle for independence or identity of expression. A lot of the problems that the character grappled with are the same now.
Nandita has also expressed her need to shoot at some elements of the movie in Pakistan. “I’d like to shoot there. For several days. I am aware in this climate it seems strange. However, I believe if we can’t be brought by Manto together, then who will? Particularly in the ethnic space,” she added.
