The last videocassette recorder (VCR) in Japan will be made by the ending of the month, in accordance with the Nikkei paper.

DVD technology were introduced in the 1970s but superseded vCRs.

A year ago, Sony announced it would discontinue selling Betamax video cassettes – a competitor to the VHS. Record or vCRs were needed to play such tapes.

It was 12 years past that UK High Street retailer Dixons determined to phase out the sale of VCRs because of the popularity of DVD players.
