Migrants left in the Calais Jungle area have now been permitted to sleep in some shelters that stay standing at the site, reports say.

Aid groups are providing at least 70 people, including dozens of minors with blankets and food.

More than 5,800 individuals have been evacuated from the camp this week.

This consists of 226 adults and 16 minors that left on trainers in the last 24 hours, the Agence France-Presse news agency reports.

The camp is almost entirely deserted. Demolition work continues and authorities have vowed to totally clear the website by Monday.

Migrants fleeing poverty and war had used the sprawled site as a staging post to reach the UK.

It was seen as a key symbol of the failure to deal with the worst migrant crisis since the second world war of Europe.
