Concerned families of detained activists ran to Myanmar’s penitentiaries as officials indicated after Aung San Suu Kyi suggested in a mass amnesty, dozens of pupils might be freed.

More than a hundred prisoners of pupils and conscience stay locked up despite reforms recently as the military loosened its grasp on power, in Myanmar.

On Friday morning families assembled at penitentiaries in Yangon, the biggest city, as well as in central Tharrawaddy, where pupils have already been detained for more than a year over an instruction protest that has been destroyed in a violent police crackdown in March 2015.

Expectant families clutching groups of blooms also greeted the pupils as they arrived in a closeby courthouse by a police truck, where officials said they were preparing to free the pupils.
