Star Wars filmmaker George Lucas’ plans to construct a $400m (GBP262m) museum along the coasts of Chicago’s Lake Michigan have now been approved.

The city council voted overwhelming ft Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.

The museum will house costumes, artefacts and memorabilia alongside artworks collected by Lucas, from films including Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

The director determined a year ago to assemble it.

The city in Lucas’ home state of California was widely expected to be chosen as the site of the museum, as it is home to the visual effects section of Lucasfilm, therefore when it was announced, it was considered a major coup for Chicago.
