Corruption Offences: Cambodia diplomat to South Korea charged with fraud

Cambodia’s ambassador to South Korea continues to be charged having a chain of corruption offences in Cambodia. Mr Dina denies the charges, which carry a potential sentence of 15 years.

He told reporters outside court on Thursday that his arrest on Monday was “unfair”. He’s also accused of abusing huge amounts of resources that were official. “We’ve plenty of signs. Mainly that he embezzled cash worth $116,995 by selling visa decals,” Om Yentieng told reporters.

Suth Dina is a former anti-government student activist who deserted to the ruling party of Prime Minister Hun Sen in 2009. He was made ambassador to Seoul. Transparency International ranks as among the planet ‘s most corrupt countries Cambodia.

Since its development in 2011, the ACU has detained dozens of people, including a foreign ministry official detained last week for allegedly taking bribes from a business that was international.
