Tony Blair’s Labour government formed a blunder in encouraging diesel automobiles as they’re now “killing people”, former science minister Lord Drayson has said.

That tax break stays in place now.

Lord Drayson, whose own company invests in energy that is clean needs the present authorities to act to improve driver behavior again.

“We’ve a far greater understanding than we did only several years past of the health effects of the products of diesel, plus they are actually killing people.

“It’s is clear that in hindsight that it was the wrong policy … we’ve got to take actions actually rather fast,” he said.

He explained: “I believe we should have things just like a car scrappage scheme where individuals who would like to trade in their own diesel get prohibit electrical car or hybrid vehicle. I think that is something the authorities should support.

He also called for more extensive independent testing of diesel exclusion zones and emissions .

“The car industry has to hasten the development of electric vehicles and we’re likely to begin to see the importance of a larger adoption of hybrid vehicles,” he said.

About 11 million vehicles globally are changed, of which nearly 1.2 million were in the UK.

The previous minister’s perspectives will further alarm motorists of diesel automobiles, a number of whom purchased them considering they were harmful to the surroundings.
