US presidential nominee Donald Trump is known for his gaffes so it was no surprise when the Hindu faith was entangled by him with the Indian country at a charity event on Saturday.
At a fund-raising event in New Jersey organised by the Hindu Republican Coalition, Trump claimed, “I am a big fan of Hindu, and I am a big fan of India. Big, big fan.”
At least 14 per cent or 172 million of the nation’s people identify as Muslims. But Trump only said, “I ‘ve great esteem for Hindus. I have numerous friends that are Hindu. They’re great people, amazing entrepreneurs,” he said.
When not and asked by the interviewer why he was simply talking about Hindus India’s other religions, he responded, “I’ll be honest, I have great respect for India. I actually have jobs going up in India, tremendously successful. It is an amazing country.”
