Electric Scooters and Segways are banned in China’s two biggest cities

China’s two biggest cities have banned the use of electrical scooters and segways on public roads due to safety issues. Scooters, altered bicycles and segways have now been growing in popularity in China as a way to beat traffic jams.

However, many do not have lights or suitable brakes, and can exceed speed limits. Electric scooters and segways are presumed to have a maximum speed of 20km/h, but the Beijing

Consumers’ Association found that most of them are able to surpass that.

China’s third-biggest city Guangzhou can be apparently considering a prohibition on electric scooters.

There are not any national safety standards for such vehicles, which don’t fall in the category of either motor vehicles or non-motorised ones according to Chinese law.
