Services for the lady who has been considered to be the earliest U.S. veteran at the time of her passing will be held in downtown Detroit.

Didlake of West Bloomfield died at age 110.

She was a 38-year old wife and mother-of five when she signed up for the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps in 1943. Didlake served about seven months stateside throughout the war as motorist and a private.

Produced in Alabama, she moved to Detroit in 1944 along with her family.

After her departure, Obama said Didlake was a “trailblazer for generations of Americans that have given so much for his or her nation.”
