Just when you believed McDonald’s Japan could not get any stranger, a new flavour of French fries has been added to the menu for Halloween.

Having made headlines around the globe in January by releasing a double chocolate-flavoured sauce for the chips, the Japanese arm of the burger chain has produce a new spook-themed spud topping – chocolate and pumpkin.

The menu, called Halloween Choco Potato, was launched on Wednesday.

The unlikely combination is made to both coincide with the 45th anniversary in Japan along with the yearly ghoul of the business -themed festival.

It comes after the surprise success of the McChoco Potatoes – chips covered in both milk and white chocolate which, according to one customer, “actually works”.

First reaction to the most recent flavour has additionally been remarkably positive.

22, Ayano Ishikama, said: “The flavours of pumpkin and chocolate went unexpectedly well, and it was quite appetizing.”

The menu will be accessible in Japan until the end of October.
