A minumum of one fatal accident has been reported following a detached house was ruined in what’s considered to be a gas explosion, according to the authorities.
A loud bang was reported on Springwood in Haxby, near York, at about 07:30 GMT, North Yorkshire Police said.
The property was damaged in the blast, as well as several others nearby were damaged. Brett Duncan, who was among the very first on the scene, said: “It was like an aeroplane had hit the house.”
“All of the car alarms were sounding, I saw debris across the road. I ran up the road and saw a heap of debris, it was shocking.”There was no smoke or fire at that point. Me and another gentleman simply yelled for everyone to evacuate the road and that is when the smoke began, it subsequently caught fire.”
