‘Minions’ Milestone Crosses $1B

The film is the third animated name ever to hit at that mark, while Universal becomes the primary studio -dollar infants in certain year.

Minions has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, a rare accomplishment for an animated movie.

This milestone also marks the very first time any studio has had three pictures cross $1 billion within a year at the global box office. Angry 7 has brought in $1.51 billion for Universal, while Jurassic World has brought in $1.628 billion to date.

The other animated tentpole of the summer, Pixar and Disney’s Inside Out, has earned $701 million.
