Recall Ajay Bahl’s B.A. Pass which touched upon the notion of male prostitution? The 2012 movie got everyone’s attention because of its daring issue. And now Salman Khan’s next movie will be something on these lines. The Dabangg actor is planning to create a biopic on Somen Banerjee. For those who do not understand, Somen possessed Chippendale’s– he and the male strip club committed suicide in a Downtown jail cell on October 23, 1994.
The Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor confirmed the news to a leading daily and said, “A Bengali man, who moved from India to America in the late 60s, struggled and created one of America’s most iconic brands. We are going to tell the story of Somen Banerjee, a man driven by fierce ambition, on celluloid.”
The biopic will focus on Somen’s journey from rags to riches. His dad was a printer and for a much better life, Somen shifted from Kolkata to America. Banerjee, a Bombay-born businessman, set up the Chippendales in a small nightclub in La, it was the first troupe of its type. American women flocked to see them in such numbers that the city fire authorities needed to shut down the area . The film will touch upon controversial issue.
Amar Butala of Salman Khan Productions added, “The story of Somen Banerjee has all the shades of a gangster film -raw greed, power and violence. We’re currently working on the script and the plan is two-fold -to produce a feature film and to develop it as a mini-series as well.”
