Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra hopes her leading role in successful United States television show Quantico will help pave the way for other Indian actors to allow it to be huge in America.

The former Miss World is blazing a trail as the very first Indian lead in a US TV series, playing FBI agent turned guessed terrorist Alex Parrish.

“I truly believe that we’ve got an enormous pool of talent in India, which crosses actors, directors, technicians and such, and there is a huge window of opportunity to allow them to explore outside India,” she added.

Chopra has got enthusiastic reviews as Parrish, who is accused in the play of masterminding the largest terror attack on American soil since September 11, 2001.

The series jumps between present day, when she is trying to establish her innocence, and her time as a trainee representative at the FBI’s academy at Quantico in Virginia and on the run from the law.

The plot leaves viewers trying to figure who plotted the assault — Parrish or among her former coworkers at Quantico.

While Bollywood celebrities Anil Kapoor (24), Rahul Khanna (The Americans) and Nimrat Kaur (Homeland) have all featured in American shows, Chopra is the primary celebrity from India to headline an initial show.

Her face is plastered across billboards and Chopra said she felt the pressure.

“I was nervous… interval! Firstly I am trying something new, I was attempting it in a whole new geography, I was doing it in another language from just what the crowd is used to for my on-screen character,” she described.

The star of Bollywood hits like Dil Dhadakne Do (Let The Heart Beat) and biopic Mary Kom included that she felt it was important that her Indian-American character was ethnically ambiguous.

“There’s a lot of diversity in the characters on Quantico but it’s not a cliched representation,” she said.
