Pakistan supplanted arch rivals India to become the world’s number one Test side on Monday for the first time since the International Cricket Council (ICC) introduced the rankings process in 2003.

A waterlogged outfield in Trinidad driven a draw in India, a match and the final and fourth Test between the West Indies the tourists had to win to hold onto top spot.

Pakistan, who play their home games won the final and fourth Test of their recent series to seal a 2-2 draw.

Pakistan are only the fifth team after Australia, England, India and South Africa to top the positions.
Pakistan have played in the UAE.

The team – who have replaced India at the top – have not played a Test at house in six years for security reasons.

Pakistan, who drew on their recent Test series are the fifth team to top the ranks. “For us, the number one ranking isn’t a destination but part of a journey,” captain Misbah-ul-Haq said.

Pakistan were named the number one side after the Test between India and the West Indies at the Port of Spain was abandoned.

India are second in the ranks with 110 points, while England and Australia are in joint third place on 108 points.
