Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Shaandaar’ crashes after promising opening; ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’ stays strong in its second week run.

Post box office and the critical success of his independent debut directorial ‘Queen’ (2014), expectancies from Vikas Bahl’s latest venture, Shaandaar, were high. Much hype was built around the four and also the Dussehra release -day weekend was expected to become an additional advantage.

However, movie buffs chose to stay off “Bollywood’s first destination wedding drama”, which took a nosedive after having a good opening (Rs 13.10 crore). Negative word of mouth buzz dealt a huge blow to its theatrical business while critics had panned the Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer.

Trade specialist Amod Mehra says, “Releasing the movie on Dusshera was a wise choice as the very first-day collections were commendable. Nevertheless, the second day the groups fell steadily. The crowd has certainly rejected the picture and which will lead to makers incurring significant losses.”

The movie is supposed to possess done well only in large cities. Over the following two days, the numbers fell by nearly 50 per cent and on its second day, plummeted further. On the brighter side, though, it proved to be the biggest opener for Shahid, whose finest so far was ‘R… Rajkumar’ (Rs 10.20 crore).

The picture has been rejected. ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2’, which released the previous week, stayed rock-solid in the box office.”

Irrfan-starrer ‘Talvar’, in line with the 2008 Noida double murder, found a few takers while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s comeback vehicle, ‘Jazbaa’, received lukewarm response and is on its way out.
