RIP! Veteran singer Mubarak Begum passes away at 80

One more celebrated has left the world. Veteran singer Mubarak Begum was one of the talented singers Hindi film industry had witnessed. She had began her career as a playback singer in the movie Aiye. The 80 year old died on after a lengthy illness. She had been living with her son and daughter-in-law in the Mumbai suburbs and granddaughter.

Mubarak Begum has sung songs for renowned directors and actors right from Kamal Amrohi’s Daera (1953) Devta Tum Ho Mera Sahara to Dilip Kumar’s Devdas Woh Na Aayenge Palat Kar. It was said that Mubarak used to take up all the tunes which Lata Mangeshkar used to reject citing date issues. Begum’s career saw an immense downfall during 1970’s and 1980’s. One of her last songs was Saanwariya Teri Yaad Mein for Ramu Toh Diwana Hai (1980).
