Academy Award-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has kept the ball rolling as her recently published documentary bags another honour.

Sharmeen’s movie A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness was shortlisted in the category of Best Documentary – Short Subject for Oscars nominations.

Sharmeen’s documentary follows the narrative of an eighteen-year old girl, a rare survivor of an honour killing attempt, who lives to tell the narrative and falls in love.

Every year more than a 1000 women are killed in Pakistan in the name. The vast majority of casualties are women attacked by family members.

It’s a movie concerning the kinds of choices victims women have in the whole world and the way our lives are impacted by the decisions taken by other people,” said Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Acclaimed journalist Tina Brown and notable documentary producer Sheila Nevins have functioned as the Executive Producers.

Sharmeen is the first Pakistani to win an Oscar for her documentary Saving Face in 2012.

A Girl The cost is set to air on HBO in 2016.
