David Beckham once again demonstrated he’s the finest man in football with a kindhearted gesture to a paramedic and her patient. Cyclist paramedic Catherine Maynard was treating an elderly patient who had fallen over on Monday when she received an unlikely visitor.

Beckham, who seen Catherine as well as the pensioner waiting for an ambulance 10 minutes earlier, returned with warm drinks in the bitterly cold winter weather.

‘I was waiting with my patient for an ambulance to transfer him to hospital and although I was keeping him warm it was really chilly outside,’ paramedic Catherine Maynard said.’All of a sudden, I looked up and saw someone who looked like David Beckham walking past us.’He said hello and got in his car. I said to the man I was treating, ‘I believe that was David Beckham’.

‘Ten minutes after, he came back using a cup of coffee for me personally and a tea for the patient.’We were both really amused, and flattered. It was terrible cycling about in the cold and I couldn’t believe it when he came back with some hot beverages – I was so chuffed.’Beckham’s gesture went down well with the London Ambulance Service who said: ‘even a gesture as little as purchasing a cup of coffee gets our teams feel appreciated’.Nicely played Becks!

Five Nepali footballers are charged with treason over allegations of match-fixing during qualifiers for the World Cup, police said.

Goalkeeper Ritesh Thapa and former Captain Sagar Thapa along with three others were arrested last month.
Authorities said substantial sums of money were found in their own bank accounts – fixers in South East Asia.

The athletes allegedly intentionally lost a lot of qualifiers.

“The government has charged the five footballers arrested last month with treason and has sought a life sentence as punishment,” Bhadrakali Pokharel, registrar in the Special Court in Kathmandu, told AFP news agency.

Mr Pokharel said they were charged under a 1989 act that anyone “causing or attempting to cause illness with all the intention of jeopardising Nepal’s sovereignty, integrity or national unity, shall be responsible for life imprisonment”.

The footballers are expected to be shown before a court on Monday.

Football’s world governing body Fifa has been embroiled in a number of alleged corruption scandals in recent months.
