Harrison Ford in a serious condition after Plane Crash

Emergency officials, citing privacy rules, didn’t identify the actor but said the pilot, in his 70s, was taken to the hospital in serious condition. A person familiar with the incident confirmed the pilot was Mr. Ford.

“The incident was reported at 2:25 p.m., it was mechanical failure of plane, that’s what caused the accident,” Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Officer Nuria Vanegas said.

Actor Harrison Ford was rushed to hospital on Thursday after the small plane he was piloting crashed onto a Venice, Calif. golf course.

The accident is likely to revive debate over continued operation of the airport, nestled in a busy residential section of the city, which has been a source of controversy for many years. Some local residents have fought to close the field, or at least restrict the types of aircraft and hours of operation. Some aviation and business groups have resisted such steps, and federal regulators have been caught in the middle
