Taylor Swift was a favourite when the American Music Award nominations were announced on Tuesday.
The blonde 1989 hit maker was mentioned for six awards, including Song Of The Year as well as Artist Of The Year. Charlie Puth and Joe Jonas announced the nods on Good Morning America.
Sam Smith, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, The Weeknd and Nicki Minaj garnered several nominations. Canadian singer-songwriter the Weeknd and Sheeran tied with five apiece. Both are also nominated for Artist Of The Year.
Other competitions for Artist Of The Year are Meghan Trainor, One Way, Smith and Luke Bryan, Grande, Maroon 5, Minaj. The field will be narrowed to five nominees predicated on fan voting.
The three nominees for Favourite Female Artist in the Soul and R&B category were Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and Rihanna. As for R&B category and the male Soul, Chris Brown, Trey Songz and The Weeknd were named.
That means Rihanna could have another run in Brown with her ex-husband. New Artist Of The Year went to Fetty Wap – who was involved in a motorcycle crash – Sam Hunt, Tove Lo, Walk The Moon and The Weeknd.
Jennifer Lopez – whose Las Vegas show launches in January – is set to host the show, which will air live from Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater.
