A 12 to 14 carryed out a suicide bombing which killed 51 people in the Turkish city of Gaziantep, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

Mr Erdogan said the so called Islamic State (IS) was behind the attack, which targeted a Kurdish wedding party. Gaziantep, near the Syrian border, is understood to have several cells that were IS.

Suicide bomb left injured and 17 of them are in serious condition.

The wedding guests were targeted by the bomber as they danced on the road.

The BBC’s Seref Isler, who’s from Gaziantep, says the city of 1.5 million was already on edge because of events in Syria, WHERE’S has been battling Syrian Kurdish forces.

A suicide bomber believed to have connections to IS killed two policemen in Gaziantep.

The selection of objective seems designed for maximum effect: those appreciating a minute of a celebration at a wedding party.

If this is an attack by so called Islamic State, it may be a result to the jihadists’ recent loss of territory in Syria. Perhaps this assault on a Kurdish wedding in Gaziantep was an action of retaliation.

It comes as Turkey’s prime minister declares that his government will play a more active part in the Syrian conflict. We realize that Turkish-backed rebels are preparing a further offensive into the IS -held province of

Jarablus and will be allowed safe passage across the Turkish border. This strike could have been a warning shot by IS.
