Brazil police force has prohibited policemen’ use of smartphones at work, saying instant messaging services about the beat jeopardizes protection.

In an internal memo the Rio de Janeiro state force said it’d be tracking for smartphone and tablet computer use, which might be considered a ‘serious offense’.

However, the memo, dated October 9, didn’t spell out the possible consequences for offenders, the Metro reports.

Brazil is among the top users of the world’s of the latest social websites, and the instant messaging application WhatsApp has become the preferred method of communicating for all.

The memo said that use of social media harms and instant messaging programs’ productivity, security and also the quality of (officers’) services to population’.
