The topic of equal pay for actors and celebrities took center stage at Elle magazine’s Women in Hollywood awards on Monday.
Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence last week composed an essay on the matter — in which she said she’s had it with trying to be “adorable” when it comes to sexism in Hollywood and equal pay for girls. The problem has since been gaining traction.
Comedian Amy Schumer said the problem of equal pay went beyond the movie industry, joking about “the poor casualties of Hollywood”.
Swedish performer Alicia Vikander said any dialog concerning the issue of equal pay must be welcomed.
“It’s about bringing awareness and also to educate individuals,” she said.
