Wow: Playboy joins digital newsstand Readly as it looks to entice new readers

Digital newsstand Easily has been joined by playboy magazine as it looks to expand its reach after a prohibition on female nudity on its pages apparently knocked on circulation amounts.

The magazine is set to join Readly with instant effect. Readly offers consumers digital use of a wide selection of 520 UK magazine brands in addition to international names through an all-you-can-read subscription model.

The iconic name makes its bow on great britain platform within a broader effort to reinvent itself. Despite its popularity, the title has fought to keep its relevancy in a marketplace that is becoming increasingly difficult to monetise at scale given the proliferation of on-line content that was free.

Playboy’s web site was toned down to help drive more traffic. The shift that is staretgic plans to reverse a severe decline.

Readership has fell from about 5.6 million in 1975 to approximately 800,000 in recent years. In March it was reported that the parent group of Playboy magazine, Playboy Enterprises, was supposedly investigating a sale that could see it fetch up to $500m.
