With only minor tweaks to the design of the iPhone 6, cases designed for last year’s handset should properly fit the iPhone 6s series when it launches later this month, meaning upgraders won’t need to buy new accessories.

Apple’s site notes that both its leather and silicone cases for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus fit the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, respectively. All four handsets are being sold by the business concurrently, along with the official Apple cases are confirmed to fit both the iPhone 6 collection as well as the 6s lineup.

The new iPhone 6s lineup is slightly thicker as compared to the iPhone 6 models though cases will continue to fit with the latest versions.

Both iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus are also marginally thicker at 0.28-inch and 0.29-inch, respectively.

Eventually, the models of this year will also be heavier. The Plus version has seen an increase from 6.07 oz to 6.77 oz, while the iPhone 6s weighs in at 5.04 ounces, up from 4.55 ounces for the iPhone 6.

Much of those external changes are considered to be related to a fresh casing material. The iPhone 6s lineup of Apple uses 7000 series aluminum, making the device more rigid. Exactly the same aluminum alloy is used by Apple .

Given that both last year’s and this season ‘s versions are fit by the cases of Apple, it is likely that nearly all third party cases may also fit properly. Case maker Speck indicated as much last week.

As for Apple’s own instances, the business greatly expanded the colour options because of its silicone case line. While last year’s iPhone 6 cases came in six absolute colours, this year the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s silicone alternatives now total 11 distinct colours.
