Apple car project: Soon developing its car OS in Canada

More information about Apple’s applications team for its not-so-secret car job are emerging. According to a fresh report from Bloomberg, Apple has hired quite a few engineers in the Ottawa suburb of Kanata. The firm could be developing its car operating system from there and also opened an office there.

The reason Kanata is so popular right now is because BlackBerry’s QNX office also happens to be there.

In July, another report suggested that QNX CEO Dan Dodge left the firm to join Apple. Since that time, around two dozen employees reportedly joined him, as well as non-QNX employees.

Based on Bloomberg, the team is working on an operating system for automobiles — and I definitely expect Apple calls it carOS. But it’s cloudy if the team is focusing on the software level which is going to run the entire automobile or the infotainment facet.

Apple is currently apparently taking care of sovereign driving technology and never a full-fledged auto. The notion is that Apple could associate with existing car manufacturers to incorporate Apple’s technologies.

Along with this strategy shift, Apple has yet to decide if the automobile project is feasible. The business could cancel the job, if Apple’s auto team can’t construct a promising demo before the end of 2017.

There are lots of rumors going distinct manners about Project Titan, as you can see. Apple could be hiring but also firing, Apple could be starting a new office but also reducing the scope of the project… There’s one thing for sure, if the car project is real: Apple doesn’t truly know what it wants to do.
