Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez have officially filed for divorce

Olivier Martinez and Halle Berry apparently had enormous disagreements about where to raise their two-year-old son, Maceo.

The ‘Extant’ celebrity, who filed for divorce in the French actor on Tuesday after a couple of years of union, did not see eye-to-eye with him about a lot of matters, including about whether they should live in Paris or Los Angeles.

A source told PEOPLE.com: “Olivier never adored living in L.A. full time. [He] just is not happy in L.A.

“They’ve had many issues. They also don’t like to compromise and both have ardent personalities.

News: “They have had long stretches of time apart and both look happier when they do not have to cope with the other. They have lots of differences culturally and as much as lifestyle goes. Matters did not jive between them and they grew apart. It was a challenge to meet each other’s needs and be on the exact same team.”

While the 49-year-old performer “had an unbelievably enthusiastic bond” with Olivier and they initially tried to save their marriage, they are now both prepared to proceed.

The source added: “They’ve essentially been separated for many months, but now they’re both ready for a clean break and also to go forward with their lives.

“They’ve fought to get quite a while and had been living separate lives. They waited it out for a time, seeing if things would improve, but they didn’t.”
