JAILED! Wife of Saudi activist Waleed Abu al-Khair ‘arrested’


The wife of jailed outstanding Saudi human rights campaigner Waleed Abu al-Khair has been detained, activists say.

Abu al-Khair was jailed for 15 years for “sabotaging the regime” in 2014.

Mrs Badawi can also be the sister of captive Saudi blogger Raif Badawi, who for insulting Islam. was sentenced in 2014.

Raif Badawi’s wife, Ensaf Haidar, additionally reported the arrest in her tweet: “Pressing: #Samar_Badawi was detained on the charge of directing @WaleedAbulkhair twitter account.”

Samar Badawi was detained into a police station and transferred along with her two-year old daughter on Tuesday, Amnesty International USA quoted local activists.

After question, she is likely to appear before a prosecutor later on Wednesday and was sent to prison, it says.

Amnesty’s Philip Luther said the arrest “shows the extreme lengths to which the authorities have decided to go inside their relentless effort to harass and intimidate human rights defenders into quiet submission”.

Saudi officials never have publicly commented on the matter.
