Celebgate hack: Collins sentenced over nude photos theft
A Pennsylvania court has sentenced a a man for hacking into the reports of stars and stealing nude photographs and videos.
He’d stolen the usernames and passwords of more than 600 people.
Collins tricked his targets – including Scarlett Johansson, Kate Upton, performers Jennifer Lawrence, and Kirsten Dunst – by sending e-mails appearing be from Apple or Google.
Collins was charged with accessing the pictures between 2012 and 2014, in a situation known as “celebgate”. But wasn’t charged with releasing them.
“Researchers haven’t uncovered any evidence linking Collins to the genuine leaks or that Collins shared or uploaded the information he obtained.”
Collins obtained 72 Gmail accounts and at least 50 iCloud accounts.
Collins was initially charged in Los Angeles, but sentenced in Pennsylvania, his home state.
