An Australian man has won his fight to keep an engagement ring he bought at a tremendous A$32,900 (£20,326) discount, due to an online pricing bungle.
Nicholas Buttle purchased the two-carat diamond ring for A$1,100, the Daily Telegraph reported.
But retailer Royal Diamonds Pty Ltd refused to deliver it, saying it was worth A$34,000. Mr Buttle won and took the dispute to some tribunal.
A manager said the Sydney jewellery company would now need to close.
“We will make the ring and shut the business,” he told the paper.
But the tribunal found there was an “absolute contract of sale made between the parties”.
The choice means pay all legal costs, including Mr Buttle’s and Royal Diamonds will need to deliver a ring of equivalent or higher value.
Royal Diamonds Pty Ltd and Mr Buttle did not immediately return requests for comment.
